Joe Biden Wins and Will Become the 46th President of the United States

The outcome of the 2020 presidential election will likely be one of the most significant, if not the most significant, event in recent history. This is saying a lot considering all the historic social movements, natural disasters, and devastating viral pandemics the world has experienced in the last year alone.

Today, as the commonwealth of Pennsylvania finished counting its remaining votes, history was made. By winning Pennsylvania, the once Democratic nominee has secured his path to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and will become the 46th President of the United States.

President-elect Joe Biden will begin his term trying to fix the Trump administrations disastrous mistakes, in terms of international policy, the economy, the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, and most importantly the damage done to decency, civility, and justice in American society.

This year brought an end to the world as we knew it prior to the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus. It is still unknown whether we will ever be able to get back to the days when people went to restaurants, the movies, and were able to shake hands without the fear of contamination. 2021 will be a year of change, it looks like its going in that direction because of the advances in a Covid-19 coronavirus cure, and because this country desperately needs there to be change. Half the country cannot continue to hate the other half. The Biden administration will lead that change, and one significant way in which it does is with vice president-elect Kamala Harris.

Kamala Harris will become both the first woman and the first person of color to ever hold the office of vice president of the United States. When you think of it, this fact is so deeply surprising because by now that milestone should have happened. Women are the majority in the U.S. and women of color in particular are highly involved in politics, so this historic first, undoubtedly marks a turning of the page towards a chapter in America with more opportunities and inclusion for all women in positions of power in Washington.

The Biden-Harris campaign had support from a lot of different people and groups. One such notable group is republicans who voted across party lines. Political party unity is important, and even as hard as it is to vote across party lines, before a candidate should be judged as a "democrat" or "republican" they must first be judged by their actions. President Trump's actions were always for his own benefit while carelessly endangering the lives of others, and at the core of his administration were fascist ideologies and practices. Members of both parties coming together to elect Joe Biden for President, underscores that our sacred unity as a whole country was not destroyed by the Trump administration. Will it be easy for both parties to work together moving forward? NO! Possible? Absolutely.

While it is true that Joe Biden won the presidency, it is the American people who are the true winners. With President-elect Joe Biden in office we have a better chance of getting the economy on track and winning the fight against Covid-19, because Biden will not waste time glorifying himself and dividing the nation. As this year and the Trump administration are nearing their end, a new period of change is at the cusp of starting, and no man is best suited to lead that change than a man who has dedicated his life and career to public service.

Congratulations President-elect Joe Biden, you did it!
